I'm enjoying this newsletter, Lisa. Your writing is so alive, and I am learning a lot about the Smashing Pumpkins, your obsession! I was obsessed with Billy Joel's The Stranger album between the ages of 10-12. While I discovered Springsteen at 16, and he became my lifelong muse, it was and is Billy Joel, specifically The Stranger, that was my first musical obsession. I had a second hand portable stereo passed down to me from my cool Aunt Kathy. I spent hours in my room during the summer of 1977, age 10, playing the record over and over again, until my mother would kick me out to "get some fresh air". That song, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant -- the clarinet, the composition, the lyric -- brings me back to that summer every time. Reading your post today helped me go back there. Thank you!

So much of what you express about what it means to be a writer (or really any type of maker, in my case), doing the thing, feeling not enough, hits. I love this, Lisa. I’m a year late to this SP party, but better late than never ❤️
